HFR launched the new HFRI Long Volatility Index family at an invitation-only investor event in Boston, MA.

The event included presentations by Ken Heinz, President HFR Index, as well as invited speakers. Also featured was a panel discussion with HFRI Long Volatility Index constituent hedge fund managers. The event included two breakout sessions for networking as well as lunch for all invited guests.

Meketa Zachary Driscoll, CFA – Managing Principal
Mr. Driscoll joined Meketa in 2018. He serves as a research consultant covering marketable alternative strategies in the Public Markets Manager Research group. His primary responsibilities include evaluating, selecting and monitoring investment managers. Areas of focus for his research include, but are not limited to, global macro, trend following, market neutral and insurance linked strategies. Mr. Driscoll also assists clients with portfolio construction and asset allocation.

Prior to joining the firm, he worked at State Street Corporation. Mr. Driscoll graduated from the Villanova School of Business at Villanova University, cum laude, with a degree in finance and a minor in business analytics. He holds the Chartered Financial Analyst® designation, and is a member of the CFA Institute.

Ionic Capital Management Doug Fincher, Portfolio Manager
Doug Fincher is a portfolio manager at Ionic Capital Management LLC. Together with the Principals, he is responsible for asset allocation across strategies. Prior to joining Ionic, Mr. Fincher was the president and CEO of Rock Maple Funds LLC, a New York-based fund of hedge funds, from 2008 to 2012. During his tenure, he also was a portfolio manager and served on the firm’s investment committee. From 2002-2008 he worked for CIBC WM Inc., where he managed two departments and served on the bank’s U.S. Executive Management Committee. Earlier in his career, Mr. Fincher held a variety of senior management positions at Lazard Frères, ABN AMRO Bank N.V. and Kidder Peabody. Mr. Fincher graduated from Lafayette College in Easton, PA in 1986 with a BA in History.
HFR Kenneth Heinz, President
Mr. Heinz is the President of HFR Index, LLC (HFR) and is a leading authority on the global hedge fund industry. Mr. Heinz manages HFR’s industry leading hedge fund index business; he has provided specialized consulting services to the industry’s most significant institutional investors globally and has worked directly with thousands of managers, including many of the industry’s most influential firms. He has also contributed authoritative research and commentary to some of the industry’s best-known conferences and organizations. He is also a highly sought-after source of expert commentary for leading media outlets including the Fox Business News, Wall Street Journal (WSJ), Financial Times (FT), Dow Jones, Newswires, CNBC (U.S., European, Asian), New York Times, London Times, and many more.

Mr. Heinz has a Master of Business Administration from University of Chicago Booth School of Business with a concentration in Econometrics and Statistics and is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA). Mr. Heinz holds a Bachelor of Science from the University of Illinois, with a concentration in Finance, Business Finance, Investments and Financial Institutions.

One River Asset Management Patrick Kazley, Head of Solutions
Patrick Kazley is Head of Solutions at One River Asset Management, leading ORAM’s risk mitigation solutions practice. In this role, Patrick heads the construction and management of portfolio solutions for clients. Further, Patrick helps global clients understand, access, and stay connected to the investment capabilities across all ORAM strategies. Patrick leverages over a decade of experience in systematic strategies and institutional investing. Before joining One River, Patrick worked at AQR Capital Management, beginning in 2015. At AQR, Patrick was most recently a Vice President in the Portfolio Management and Research division for the Global Stock Selection group. Within this team, Patrick served as a product specialist for both multi-asset and stock-specific strategies, ranging from market-neutral hedge funds to traditional long-only equity products. Before this role, Patrick helped establish and grow AQR’s first presence in Asia based out of Hong Kong. Across the Asia region, he helped large institutions access the strategies and capabilities of AQR as they made key allocation decisions. Before this, Patrick carried out a similar role in the U.S. for AQR. Patrick began his career at J.P. Morgan as an Investment Specialist in the Private Bank. Patrick holds a degree in International Finance from Tufts University, graduating magna cum laude. Patrick also holds a certificate in Enhanced Financial Analysis from the Principles for Responsible Investment Academy.
NISA Investment Advisors Kenneth L. Lester, Managing Director, Portfolio Management
Ken is a managing director and member of NISA’s Investment and Management Committees. He is responsible for the day-to-day oversight of the Fixed Income and Derivatives Portfolio Management Group. Ken joined NISA at its inception in 1994 following a reorganization of NISA’s predecessor, National, which he joined in 1990.Prior to National, Ken was a member of the Financial Strategies Group at Goldman, Sachs & Co. and a portfolio manager at Goldman Sachs Asset Management. Ken holds a BA and an MAE in Quantitative Economics from the University of Michigan.
Lake Hill Capital Management Zem Sternberg, CEO
Zem Sternberg got his start in 1987 as a graduate student at The University of Chicago, trading index options using a simple Apple computer and statistical techniques. He quickly caught the attention of Blair Hull, a pioneer in options trading, and began working with the Hull Trading team where he learned firsthand the importance of staying disciplined during difficult market events like the 1987 crash.Zem joined Salomon Brothers in 1990 and built their equity derivatives business into a global powerhouse and became one of the youngest Managing Directors in firm history. He achieved this by relentlessly focusing on recruiting and retaining the best talent and applying the latest technology to stay ahead of the curve. With experience that spans from the pits in Chicago to Salomon Brothers to his privately-held international market making partnership, Zem always adapted to the changing landscape of the industry.

In 2005, Zem founded Lake Hill Capital Management, LLC and serves as the firm’s Chief Executive Officer. Lake Hill manages funds for some of the world’s most distinguished foundations, endowments, institutions, and Forbes list individuals. Under Zem’s leadership, Lake Hill has become one of the most respected and successful index options trading firms with a long and distinguished track record of success.
