Ken Matheny is the Director of Macroeconomics at The Budget Lab. Before joining The Budget Lab, he was Senior Economist and Executive Director at Macroeconomic Advisers (MA), later acquired by IHS Markit and S&P Global. At MA and its successors, he collaborated with a small team of dedicated macroeconomists in model-building, use, and training; forecasting; monetary and other policy analysis; and financial markets. He frequently engaged with clients in both the private and public sectors, including via regular webcasts on forecast developments and interactions with financial markets and monetary policies. He was the long-time lead author of MA’s flagship Weekly Economic Commentary. He has published in several academic journals and been cited in both national and international media. Prior to his tenure with MA, IHS Markit, and S&P Global, he was a tenure-track professor at Purdue University. He earned the Ph.D. in Business Economics at the University of California, Los Angeles. He holds a B.A. in Economics and German from Washington University of St. Louis.
